Season over

Well, the rental boats are done for the year in the lake near home. I didn’t get any lessons, but I did spend some time tooling around the lake. It was very enjoyable.

I’m leaving this as not done since I really would like to take a lesson or two to know proper technique.

Applied… Accepted… Registered?

Class registration is coming up, so I guess I’ll be enrolling in my first class toward my Master’s in Linguistics.

I’ll be studying at NEIU. I don’t know that it is as prestigious as Harvard, but I’m sure NEIU will fill the bill.

Now to see just how long this will take.

NEIU

I managed to get in.

Herodotus's Histories Book A

It took me nearly two months of dogged work, but I did it. Color it done!

What I liked about Herodotus is that he kind of has this crazy-uncle’s-memoir style of writing. It’s very compelling and fresh despite its antiquity.

Bottom line: learning Ancient Greek is a haul, but the payoff can be awesome.

Bad idea

I actually looked for a part-time job, but in the long run I decided that it isn’t the most effective use of my time. It is actually better to devote my efforts to other projects that may provide future earnings.

Which seems totally contradictory. Job = money now. Future money may not even happen. But I looked at it this way: $8 or $10 per hour to deliver pizza isn’t very rewarding. I’ll loose 15 to 20% off the top as taxes. I’ll still not be very happy about my financial situation.

So I find that I’m freelancing to add money to the bank account and working on other projects to help improve potential earnings in the future.
